This location is one of the “must see” places when it comes to hiking near Auburn, AL

This trail’s claim to fame is the ability to climb to the top pf the Smith Mountain Fire Tower which will give you views of the majority of the forest and Lake Martin. The tower is not for the faint of heart, however, and just seeing it was enough for me (so no pictures from the top in this review ;) ).

Besides the tower itself, the location has plenty of side trails, incredible views, and water access to make it a very enjoyable day trip. Bring lots of water and be prepared for a moderate challenge as most of the trails travel directly uphill for a solid mile before winding back down.
